Stewardship Plan: Low Woodland

OVERVIEW

Unlike the Short-grass Prairie uphill to the east, the Low Woodland collects a lot more water and takes on shade. Thus, even though it is currently an open field like the Short-grass Prairie, it will be made into a woodland rather than any kind of prairie or meadow. More trees would also enhance the screening effect of the conifers already lining the western border of the property. However, care will have to be taken in planning which tree species are placed where due to the varying soil moisture throughout the area.
